HISTORIC ENVIRONMENT
FORUM.
The Government
has released a statement on the future of the historic environment. "The
Historic Environment: A force for our future" was released on 13th December
following the earlier release of Power of Place, following a large scale
consultation exercise drawing together responses to a series of questionnaires
from several different organisations and private individuals.

ARCHAEOLOGY GROUP
The deadline
for submissions to the All Party Parliamentary Group has now passed and
further details will be posted as soon as they become available.

PLANNING GREEN
PAPER
As part
of a wholesale review of the planning system the Government have produced
a Green Paper stating its proposals for change. These include a review
of, among others, PPG15 and 16. Council Member and former Vice-Chairman
Tony Scrase has provided some thoughts on the Green Paper.

RESCUE
has been closely monitoring developments at the Roman Town of Verulamium,
where negotiations between Government and the Estate have been ongoing
in order to settle a stalemate over the ploughing of part of the estate
granted Scheduled Monument Consent.
